ELIMIKA PROGRAMME
The Elimika programme is a commendable initiative designed to enlighten and empower the youth by raising awareness on pivotal issues that affect them.
The Elimika programme represents a critical investment in the future of Tanzania’s youth, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to lead healthy, informed, and empowered lives. Through its comprehensive approach to youth development, the programme seeks to create a generation that is well-informed on matters of sexual health, education, civic participation, and human rights, thereby contributing to the overall development of the nation.
The Elimika programme employs a variety of engaging methods to reach its audience, including training sessions held in schools and dialog events that bring together youth from different educational backgrounds. These events provide a platform for open dialogue, debate, and discussion on the aforementioned topics, fostering a sense of understanding and community among participants.
This programme focuses on several key areas:
- Sexual Reproductive Health: It educates young people about their sexual health rights, understanding their bodies, and making informed decisions related to sexual and reproductive health. This is crucial for reducing the rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), unwanted pregnancies, and ensuring that young people have access to relevant health services.
- Empowerment on Education: The programme emphasizes the importance of education as a foundational tool for personal and community development. It encourages youth to pursue their educational goals and provides guidance on how to overcome challenges they may face in their educational journey.
- Civil Engagement: Elimika aims to inspire young individuals to take an active role in their communities. This includes understanding their rights, participating in community development activities, and engaging in the democratic process, such as voting and advocacy.
- Human Rights: The programme educates the youth about their rights and the importance of respecting the rights of others. It aims to foster a culture of respect, equality, and justice among young people
The Community Hands Foundation (CHF), in collaboration with various organizations, cooperation companies, and both public and private schools across Tanzania, administers this programme. Since its inception in 2021 to 2023, the programme has made significant strides, reaching over 250 youths in the coastal regions of Tanzania. The CHF management has set an ambitious goal to expand the programme’s reach, aiming to impact more than 20,000 Tanzanian youth both directly and indirectly over the next five (5) years.
